Careers 9
Careers 9 is a course outside of the timetable but supported by the Careers 9 teacher, Mr. Perry, who will help the students to meet their Careers 9 learning outcomes during some RTI sessions. Careers 9 will focus on encouraging students to seeking out career information and start building their resumes by way of experiences like participating in Take Our Kids to Work Day, attending Lunch & Learn sessions with guest speakers, volunteering, participating in school extra-curricular sports and/or clubs, just to name a few. Mr. Perry will outline the expectations early in the school year.
In all of their classes, students will record their goal-setting, collect evidence and reflect on their learning and development of their Core Competencies in the new Spaces Portfolio platform.

Career Life Education 10 (CLE10)
Career Life Education 10 is a 4-credit course in the student’s timetable and is required for graduation. The course will focus on getting students ready for the world of work and readying for life after high school. Topics include resume building, developing interviewing skills, getting and keeping a job, worker rights and safety, and basic finance knowledge. Our CLE 10 students also participate in the YPI (Youth Philanthropy Initiative) program. In small groups, students research a local human-centred non-profit, visit with the organization, and then share their findings with their peers. This is an opportunity to earn a grant of up to $5000 for their non-profit. Students will also start working on a transition plan for after high school, as well as start to develop one of their inquiry questions and plan what will form the main focus of their Capstone Project to be worked on and shared at the end of their Career Life Connections 12 course which is taken in grade 11.

Career Life Connections 12 (CLC12) & Capstone

The Capstone Portfolio Conversation will take place during the last week of their semester class.
Defining your Capstone project
The Capstone Project can be defined as a: Experiment/Research, Event, Project, Occupation/Entrepreneur, or Service Oriented Capstone Project. It is a culminating or final senior project that will allow students to demonstrate their learning in an in-depth study of an area of interest. Ideally the project would involve the collaboration with a mentor and reflect an area that students are passionate about and in which they anticipate pursuing further learning, investigation and/or a career pathway.
The purpose of the Capstone process & presentation is to CELEBRATE individual learning, growth, transition plans and achievements across a student’s journey!
